Reach Out is the local mission arm of the Parsons PM Church. Reach Out offers several areas of ministry opportunities for you to get involved with:
Food Pantry: We collect non perishable foods in non glass containers, paper products, plastic utensils and hygiene items that we then distribute to the needy, hungry and homeless in the Greater Wilkes Barre area.
Backpack Ministry: Each school year we donate backpacks filled with supplies to the elementary schools in Wilkes Barre. Empty backpacks are also supplied to the schools for use in their backpack program. This program sends food home with kids for the evening meals and weekend meals when it is known that otherwise they would not have anything to eat after leaving school. We continually collect new backpacks and school supplies for this ongoing program.
Pillowcase Ministry: This ministry provides pillowcases to children in hospitals and shelters as well as nursing home residents in an effort to bring a little joy into difficult situations. We are always in need of cheerful 100% cotton fabric One yard of fabric and 1 yard of a coordinating fabric is enough to make two different pillowcases. We are always in need of people to help sew the pillowcases.
Quilt Ministry: This is a ministry geared to men and women living in nursing homes. Each year for Veteran’s Day, we distribute patriotic quilts to residents who have served in the military. We also try to have quilts ready for distribution on Mother’s Day. Again we need volunteers to sew. All materials are provided.
Winter Clothing Distribution: Each year before winter comes we check with the shelters to see what their residents are in need of. We provide a coat, scarf, hat, and gloves or mittens with each request. We accept new and gently used coats. We also gladly accept cash donations that are used to purchase new coats. If you like to crochet or knit, we welcome your donations of hats, gloves and scarves. Some of our volunteers also make hats for infants in the NICU unit of the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.
